Tell us about YOU! (name, what you do, do you have a partner, kids, pets)
Hi! I’m Missy Bailey! I’m a certified childbirth educator and a doula. I own Omaha Birth Connection with my husband Cody. We have three precious little ones and a dog.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was little I was obsessed with watching the tv show “The Birth Story” on TLC. I thought I would grow up to be an OB/GYN.
Any blogs you can’t get enough of?
I do love the Birth Without Fear.
What’s a picture-perfect day look like for you?
Sleeping in (I can only imagine what that would be like!), getting a coffee and then spending the day outdoors with my family. We love spending time at Mahoney State Park. It’s a perfect little getaway!
What are some of your go-to beauty products?
Right now I am loving “Unite” hair care products. So purply and delicious.
Because we are a clothing company, we have to ask, what is your go-to outfit?
Jeans, toms, and a v-neck tee. I am horrible about venturing outside of that!
What are some misconceptions with the doulas and services they provide to new and expecting moms?
The biggest misconception is that doulas are ONLY for natural birth. While some doulas prefer that and are huge advocates for it, it is absolutely not how OBC doulas roll. We support moms and their partners, no matter what choices they make! We don’t care if they are planning an unmedicated, medicated, or a cesarean birth. What we care about is that they are supported in all of their decisions/choices! We can help them explore all of their options and help them develop a plan that works for their family. They get unbiased, non-judgemental support from us, 100% of the time.
When did you know you wanted to be a doula?
I knew after having my first baby that I wanted to do things differently the next time around myself, as well as help other moms know their birthing options.
Where do you find your inspiration behind Omaha Birth Connection?
There was no simple way of finding doulas or information on birthing options when I was expecting my babies. Information was very scattered and hard to find. The places I did find were hit or miss with the quality and integrity of the people and businesses I was referred to. It was super frustrating! OBC was formed out of a desire to fill that void. We want to help get expectant moms and couples connected to everything they need for their pregnancy, postpartum and beyond! I personally help each mom until they find what they need, whether it’s a service OBC offers or a service with another business.
Any fun birth hacks you want to share?
Hiring a doula is a birth hack! In all seriousness, studies show the benefits to having a doula present for the whole labor process include improved patient satisfaction, significant reduction in the rate of cesarean deliveries and decreased use of interventions such as forceps and vacuums for delivery. There is also a slight decrease is labor duration and use of medications during labor.
If you could give one piece of advice to a new mama?
You’ll hear 1000 different opinions on how to raise your baby, but the only opinion that matters is yours.
