About eleven months ago, I found this cute little shop, in a cute little neighborhood in Lincoln, Nebraska. Known as College View, a few new shops were starting to open their doors giving this once out-dated neighborhood a fresh new look.
I had just had Estella (I believe she was a teeny tiny four weeks). It was one of our first adventures out of the house and out of Omaha (besides a quick errand here and there.)
When I walked into this cute little shop, with its picturesque display window, I was greeted by a cute pregnant mama (are you catching the theme here)?
We talked about how far along she was in her pregnancy (if I remember correctly, 36 weeks). What she was having (girl). I told her about my business. I purchased a blabla travel mat with bunnies (one of my favorite purchases to this day).
Little did I know, this would be the first (of many) trips to Paper Kite. And I have been lucky enough to partner with Meg on a professional level (you may remember Paper Kite hosted us at a pop-up shop a few months back).
Plus, the store has the most amazing finds for baby and your home. Adorable outfits you can’t find anywhere else (umm…porcupine shorts = adorable). With familiar brands like Aden and Anais to my absolute favorite headbands from LuLuLuvs. And you may recognize a few familiar local names like Oh So Vera and Wax Buffalo candles.
So it was only natural that I would bug Meg, once again, to feature her on our Mama Takeover series. I am sure you will love her…but see for yourself.
Tell us about YOU. Name, family, business.
My name is Megan Scout Hasselbalch. My husband and I have a 10 1/2-month-old little girl, Mary Frances. I own a little shop in Lincoln, Nebraska filled with paper goods and cheerful gifts for baby and home called Paper Kite!
How did you come up with Paper Kite?
Not really a good story….we sat around putting words we liked together until we liked how they sounded! And Paper Kite just sort of clicked!
What is your dream job?
Aside from owning Paper Kite….that’s easy. Co-anchor of the Today show!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Ooops…The Bachelor and Bachelorette! Eeep! Secrets out!
Big mom guilt confession?
I have absolutely no idea what I am doing! 🙂
How do you balance work and play?
Well…when Mary Frances comes to work with me we mostly just play. Ha! Honestly, it is is a constant balancing act with the help of my husband, both of our families and friends! It totally does take a village!
What do you wish you would have known then, that you know now?
That everything is going to be ok. Sometimes (ok a lot) I get stressed about even the littlest of things and somehow it always seems to work itself out. So I guess I should worry less-it is so hard though!
What’s a picture-perfect day look like for you?
Getting up fairly early, yoga or work out (which rarely happens now) grab a coffee, have breakfast with my family and then maybe just hanging out- farmers market, the zoo, really anything!
What are some of your go-to beauty products?
I am the worst at this one – I guess I would pick the Lipstick Queen Medieval stain.
Where do you love to shop?
I guess I shop at a lot of different places, I love to shop in small boutiques around Lincoln, Pattino, Stella, Tsuru, Select Style. Also, I’m a big Anthropologie fan now (especially since I worked there).
If you could give one piece of advice to another mama?
That it is hard work being a mom! And that is totally ok. 🙂 Parenting is different for everyone!
How do you balance being a mommy and a wife/partner?
It is a totally new life/work/relationship balancing act that we have going on now, but it is the most fun thing in the world! It gets easier and easier and then it is hard again…something new is always on the way just when we have her figured out!
What is your least favorite chore to do around the house?
Cleaning bathrooms!! That is Jordan’s job!
What is one question you have for other mamas out there?
I guess I just love to hear their stories! Talking to moms in the shop is one of my most favorite job perks! If I have a question about what is going on with Mary Frances, I am usually not shy about asking almost anyone who is in shopping! Ha!
Thanks so much Meg! I think you are fabulous mama with the most adorable baby girl (those blue eyes…gah)! Also, if you could give me some pointers on making my husband clean the bathroom??
